Abstract
Over the past three years Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) has evolved into the most predominant platform for building enterprise-class server-side applications. During this time, the need for a standards-based approach for administering, monitoring, and configuring J2EE applications, components, and resources has become more demanding. For example, you’ll find it extremely useful in a production environment to monitor how well a stateless session bean pool or a Java Message Server (JMS) connection factory is performing in real time. The same holds true for the bespoke J2EE components and applications you’ve built and deployed. It’s also extremely important that error conditions are properly monitored and corrective actions are adopted in production environments.
