Abstract
By now, you are either enjoying the refreshment offered by the hallowed Monkey Gland or reeling from the after-effects of several. If you’re suffering, perhaps you should have stuck with just one beast, not the whole troupe. From here on in, the learning in earnest really begins, starting with installation instructions for our chosen CLI implementations and culminating in our first cross-platform application—Woo-hoo! Breaking with the tradition that was set forth in many highly esteemed programming books, our first code sample deviates from the rather tired and, some might say, cheesy helloworld and instead concentrates on something a little more complex. En route, we investigate the platform differences when executing programs on the command line.
“There is no meal that cannot be improved by the addition of cheese.”
