Abstract
In SQL-89 and SQL-92 terms, a view is a standard table type, also referred to as a viewed or virtual table. It is characterized as virtual because, instead of storing a table object and allocating pages for storing data, the Firebird engine stores a metadata object description. It comprises a unique identifier, a list of column specifications, and a compiled SELECT statement for retrieving the described data into those columns at runtime.
