No matter what database system is being designed, normalization is a vital process. Normalization ensures that the database contained within the system is both accurate and doesn’t contain duplicated information. Normalization can be summed up in a single sentence: “Every entity in a database needs to have a single theme” (see http://www.gslis.utexas.edu/~1384k11w/normstep.html). By theme, what is being said is that one entity models one “thing” and is used for just one purpose.
