Abstract
Although performing backups is the most important jobs of a database adminstrator (DBA), implementing security comes a close second. The art of security management lies in finding a satisfactory balance between preventing anyone from doing anything and allowing everyone to do everything. If you’re too restrictive in the assignment of permissions then your users aren’t going to be able to use the database effectively. If you’re too loose in assigning permissions, then the information within your database could be misused or corrupted.
