Typical attempts at enabling systems with management features entail some kind of clumsy post-development retrofitting that must settle for gathering inconsistent information that happens to be available from these systems by chance. JMX-based systems are engineered from their inception with management capabilities. JMX defines a mechanism, called instrumentation, for factoring components of any Java-accessible system in such a way as to expose the most appropriate interfaces and services to each particular community of developers.
