By default, mysql uses the MyISAM table driver. As an alternative, since version 3.23.34 there has been available the considerably more modern InnoDB table driver. InnoDB tables offer, among other things, two functions that MyISAM tables do not (yet) have: transactions and integrity rules (foreign key constraints). The latter of these involves an automatic ensuring of referential integrity in linked tables.
