Database Integrity and Optimization

In the previous chapter, I showed you how to create, configure, modify, and drop a database. In this chapter, I’ll show you how tomaintain your database using the Transact-SQL language, including ways to use the ALTER INDEX command for rebuilding or defragmenting indexes and DBCC commands for helping identify database integrity problems. I’ll also demonstrate a new technique introduced in SQL Server 2008 for rebuilding a heap (a table without a clustered index).
