Abstract

When Mac OS X was first released in 2001, the only web browser available at that time for the operating system was Microsoft Internet Explorer. Microsoft had done a good job at porting their OS 9 browser to the new OS, but Apple realized that it was showing its age. It had a dated user interface, no tabbed browsing or pop-up blocking, and was behind in terms of web standards support.
