Creating MMAPI-based multimedia MIDlets requires knowledge of not just MMAPI, but an understanding of the MIDlet creation process as well. The understanding required is nominal, as MMAPI MIDlets are no different from other MIDlets in terms of their architecture and process.
This chapter gave you a hands-on introduction to MMAPI by creating a simple media player. You enhanced the media player MIDlet by caching, and saw how the enhancement improved the performance of the original player.
The next chapter, on media player lifecycle and events, will explain what happens behind the scenes when the media player is used to play media files. You’ll also see the various events that occur during a media player’s lifecycle and how to respond and take advantage of this knowledge.
