Summary
In this chapter, you learned to navigate the myriad steps to configure IIS, ISA, WSS, and SSL to provide secure access to Windows SharePoint Services for your extranet users. Although no single step of the process is complex, the large number of steps leaves plenty of room for errors. The best defense against these errors is to follow the preceding directions carefully and to verify the configuration at key milestones, such as when the certificate is installed on IIS or ISA.
Architecting your SharePoint extranet solution using ISA Server with SSL-to-SSL bridging provides the security that both you and your clients need and expect to protect the documents and data that will be hosted on the extranet.
