Hayek’s years in the United States on the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago from 1950 to 1962 were productive, though his reasons for moving to the United States were almost entirely personal. He had the freedom at Chicago to do whatever he wished academically; his teaching and administrative duties were a fraction of what they would have been at the London School of Economics.
