Evaluating the outcomes of a group programme

Abstract

Research studies relating to the outcomes of group work suggest that children can derive considerable therapeutic benefit and demonstrate improved psychosocial functioning as a result of their group experiences (Grayston and De-Luca, 1995; Hoag and Burlingame, 1997; Howarth and Riester, 1997; Rose, S.R., 1998). However, this does not mean that all groups will necessarily be able to achieve their defined objectives. In order to be accountable, therefore, it is desirable that group leaders take specific action to evaluate the outcomes of their group programmes.
