Abstract

A primary role of group leaders is that of facilitator. Facilitation involves running the planned programme and during group sessions observing and influencing group processes so that goals for individual children and the group can be met. Group processes involve the interactions that occur between individual group members on a one-to-one basis and between individual group members and the group as a whole. The leaders themselves are included in these processes. Group processes therefore include individual and group communication, behaviours, relationships and attitudes. These will be influenced by the degree of structure, leadership style and type of group.
