Abstract
In the previous chapter we looked at naturalism, the analogy between social science and natural science. Two main versions of this idea were compared. We found that positivism, the stronger analogy, makes too great a claim even for natural science, and encounters a series of difficulties. The weaker, broader version, realism, does not entirely escape all of these though overall it is less vulnerable.
