Nodulation of chickpea in the northern grains belt of New South Wales is sub-optimal. This is limiting the total N2 fixed and reducing the value of chickpea as a rotation crop in the largely cereal-based farming systems. This project is taking a novel approach to the problem by combining an understanding of the dynamics of rhizobial populations with evaluation of farmer practice and inoculant technologies.
