Original minimally invasive surgical procedure for three-vascular occlusion (3-VO) model of Alzheimer’s vascular dementia (AD) in aged rats was developed. The main pathological changes observed following 50-min brain ischemia were characterized by decreased parameters of oxidative phosphorylation in brain and heart mitochondria. Four weeks supplementation of liposoluble CoQ10 after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, regenerated AD brain and myocardium mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation function. These results indicate, that CoQ10 supplementation may stimulate regeneration of the damaged brain and heart mitochondria in patients with Alzheimer’s disease.
