Aerosol Dynamics Box Model Studies on the Connection of Sulphuric Acid and New Particle Formation

We have performed a series of simulations with an aerosol dynamics box model to study the connection between new particle formation and sulphuric acid concentration. For nucleation we assumed either activation or kinetic mechanism with linear and square dependence on the sulphuric acid concentration, respectively. We investigated the effect of different simulation parameters on the relationship between sulphuric acid concentration and 3–6 nm particle number concentration or formation rate. The simulations showed that the most important factor affecting the dependence is the growth process, including the amount of condensable vapours, their diurnal profiles, and the saturation vapour pressure of condensable organic vapour.
