Fitting Into The Field

Part of the Science & Technology Education Library book series (CTISE, volume 21)

This chapter explores the place of my own research within the fields of qualitative inquiry, narrative methods and multi-method approaches. It is beyond the scope of this book to consider each of these fields in detail and offer a critical overview: for that, the sources cited – particularly Norman Denzin and Yvonna Lincoln’s (2000) ‘Handbook of Qualitative Research’ – are much more appropriate and exhaustive. Rather, my intention here is to position my own (evolving) perspective in relation to other influential perspectives within these fields of inquiry.
