Assessing and studying the quality of life (QoL) in adulthood has attracted the attention of many researchers concerned with life course and ageing issues. In fact, the history of gerontology is in many ways an attempt to understand issues of life quality as people grow old (George, 2006). Measures developed to indicate QoL are multiple, including subjective and objective indictors, as well as complex approaches that draw on several dimensions (Andrews and Withey, 1976; Campbell et al., 1976; Fernandez-Ballesteros, 2002; George, 2006; Kahn and Juster, 2002; Skevington et al., 2004). Subjective ratings, however, are those that seem most sensitive to social resources.
