Abstract

Conducting research in the remote and inaccessible parts of the Globe often demands specific logistical actions. Long-term research programmes are thus usually carried out by permanent research teams working in particular stations. The working conditions under such circumstances frequently fall short of the standards set for the average research centers and laboratories. Still, the quality of the data and information to be produced has to meet the established quality norm. The Polish Polar Station Hornsund, that has been working in Spitsbergen since 1957 can serve as a model of the research and logistical solutions to be adopted for other stations in the Arctic as well as in other remote parts of the world.
