Abstract
In this section we study the theory of thermoelastic media where the second-order displacement gradient is added to the classical set of independent constitutive variables. The theory of nonsimple elastic materials has been a subject of intensive study. The equations of motion, constitutive equations, and the boundary conditions of the theory of nonsimple elastic bodies were first given in a general, nonlinear form by Toupin [364] , [365] . The theory of nonsimple thermoelastic materials has been discussed in various papers (see, for example, Ahmadi and Firoozbakhsh [2], [3], Batra [13], Ie§an [175], Martinez and Quintanilla [254]).
