Abstract

My intention in this chapter is to introduce the cultural context that informs and shapes the educational trends with which the subsequent analysis is concerned. I do so by focusing attention firstly on lifelong learning ideology, theory and advocacy, before examining the cultural tendencies which capture and give contemporary expression to that lifelong learning ideology.
