Abstract

The chapters making up this book have focused on key contemporary issues which are worthy of the thoughtful consideration of all nurses who seek to advance nursing practice in cancer and palliative care services. This chapter will summarise the development of increasingly focused health policy in the cancer and palliative care field in England, and will then examine in some detail the impact of a specific piece of health policy, The NHS Cancer Plan on the future organisation and development of cancer and palliative care services. In particular the development of cancer networks and their contribution to delivering on the vision contained in The NHS Cancer Plan (DoH, 2000a) will be examined.
