Possible Correlations between Morphological Structures in the Brain and the Compartmentations Indicated by Simulation

  • Chapter
Metabolic Compartmentation in the Brain

Abstract

Over the past decade, a considerable volume of simulation work in compartmentation of brain energy metabolism has been carried out. This has resulted in a series of increasingly complex models incorporating ever more chemical and kinetic data. Attempts to correlate the kinetically derived compartments in these models with the known morphology of the brain and its cells should help to explain how the brain functions and suggest further experimentation.
