Abstract

Stretching north from the edge of the Chiltern Hills, Bedfordshire lies between the periphery of London and the Midlands and East Anglian counties. It is primarily agricultural, with arable farming, pastures and market gardening. In contrast to its wooded hills, parklands, market towns, villages and farmlands is the spread of industry and housing development around Bedford, Dunstable and Luton.
