Abstract
Normal crop plants obtain most of their water needs through their root systems dispersed in the soil; most plants can also take up liquid water directly through the surface of their leaves as can be observed by immersing cut, wilted, foliage in water but this mode of uptake is of minor importance in the growing plant.
