Summary

Flexible Manufacturing Cells can be defined as a system of components necessary to machine different uorkpieces on one machine tool automatically. Integrated handling, parts inspection and material storage enable a cell to machine uorkpieces during a one-shift period uith a minimum of human control.

The paper describes a system for computer-aided material-handling. For this standardized pallets uith flexible workpiece holding devices for turning parts uere developed. Based on the data of the uorkpieces plans uith the holdino co-ordinates on the pallets uere computed. The values of the co-ordinates and parameters for the robot system and the machine tool uere generated simultaneously.

The development of this progamming system uas necessary, because the manual data gene -ration for loading and unloading automatically the Flexible Manufacturing Cell uas too expensive.
