Pressure Distribution and Friction in Extrusion Containers

Summary

Experiments and apparatus are described to obtain frictional loads in extrusion and pressure distribution in extrusion containers.

Lead and aluminium specimens were extruded into rods by forward extrusion and into cans by backward extrusion, while loads at both ends of the billet, together with hoop and axial strains on the outside diameter of the containers were recorded simultaneously. Experimental frictional loads and pressure distributions in the container bore are presented for various extrusion conditions.
