Aldershot, a nondescript town, is “home of the British Army” with a camp of ten square miles, barracks, and all kinds of military equipment. In two world wars, Aldershot housed the Canadian army. Indeed, Aldershot may be the town the largest number of Canadian veterans will remember. Canadian soldiers were billeted and trained in an arc of territory extending from Aldershot in the west through Guildford to Woking, Dorking, and Leatherhead where Canadian headquarters was located for part of the war (in Headley Hall, now a rehabilitation hospital).
