A National Health Service in Quangoland

  • Peter Baldwin

Abstract

The provision of health services in Britain has never been undertaken directly by the state. As an historical perspective will demonstrate, the relationship between government and the provision of health care has always been hands-off. Nevertheless, during the 1980s there was a tendency for the provision of services to be fragmented, and this raises questions concerning the nature of accountability and whether health needs are being adequately met.
