Summary:A Mid-Life Crisis for the UN at Fifty

We have had a rich feast at the School with fourteen speakers producing a profusion of facts and ideas. I was reminded of a comment about the complexities of Sukarno’s Indonesia, made by Marshall Green, then US Ambassador, in the 1950s: ‘Anybody who is not thoroughly confused is just not well informed’. I will seek to dispel any confusion by dealing with key issues which arose during the conference and refer to speakers, directly and indirectly, in this process.
