Nurse Education: Scribes and Scriptures

  • Gerry Carton
Chapter

Abstract

Education is not a benign activity; rather, it is a political one due to its potential to affect the future or to perpetuate the present. Nurse education is no different from other forms of education and therefore such questions as ‘Education for what purpose?’, and indeed, ‘What is the nature of forensic nursing?’ need to be addressed. This chapter will seek to examine the purposes of education, outline some models, and relate this to forensic nursing generally, and more specifically to the Special Hospitals. Examination will focus on previous opportunities that have been lost, in the hope that future ones are seized upon.
