From Soviets to Parliamentarism

In recent years Russia has undergone a transformation in its system of representative bodies: whereas the Soviet state’s institutional framework was organised around soviets, postcommunist Russia has adopted a parliament for its national legislature. This chapter details the process by which the new legislative body was established, and outlines its current place in Russia’s political system.
