Abstract

When Babeuf left prison on 18 October 1795 he had less than twenty-one months of life ahead of him, of which just seven would be at liberty. His career up to that point would have scarcely merited a footnote in the history of the Revolution. But the various components that made up the remarkable final phase of his life were now falling into place.
