Abstract
Many of the best-known instances of pollution involve the actions of more than one country. Obvious examples include acid rain, global warming, pollution of the North Sea and damage to the stratospheric ozone layer. This chapter, which was co-written with Fanny Missfeldt, describes some of the important issues emerging from economic analysis of these problems. In some cases, this involves making use of concepts from game theory, as set out in the technical note on pp. 14-20. In Chapter 10 a more detailed example of transboundary pollution is given regarding an international fishing conflict.
