Abstract

If you had only heard of one psychologist before you opened this book, it was probably Freud. He has a unique place in the history of psychology and a unique place in the development of ideas in the twentieth century. His work provokes strong opinions both supporting and challenging his theories. In this book it is impossible to do justice to the theories or to represent the arguments for or against them. We will just try to give a flavour of Freud’s approach which shows some of the strengths as well as some of the weaknesses.
