Thinking about ‘race’

Chapter

Abstract

‘Blacks today are repaying whites for their bad treatment in colonial days. They aren’t just against police but against all white people. The police are an obvious target because they represent white supremacy. Really, until blacks have taken over and evened up the score, the problem won’t be solved. I don’t blame them really, when they get stuck in places like Brixton. I know that PCs call them spooks, niggers and sooties, but deep down the majority of PCs aren’t really against them, although there are some who really hate them and will go out of their way to get them. I call them niggers myself now, but I don’t really mean it. I think a relief takes on a personality of its own. Although you still have your own personality you lose a lot of it to the relief group personality (Smith, D. et al., 1986, p. 393).’
