Assessment in Community Care

  • Chapter
  • 75 Accesses

Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to explore the role of assessment in community care, and to examine methods of assessment as part of care management. The first section identifies different assessment roles played by social workers in community care, and possible confusions between them. The second section looks at assessment as part of care management, according to the official guidance and other views. The first stage in the official guidance, that of publicising services and providing information to the public is reserved to Chapter 7, since it is at least partly a strategy for communicating with and empowering service users and their carers. The final sections explore multi-disciplinary assessments and involving clients and carers in assessment.
