Abstract

Whatever the future pace of formal economic and monetary integration among the economies of the EC, informal economic integration has already occurred to an extent that ensures that the regional economies within the EC are interdependent. The role of the EC as a budgetary and policy-making body which seeks to actively even out interregional disparities in income and growth is therefore crucial.
