Though it was the expanded operations of multinational capital in the Third World which provided much of the initial stimulus for debate on a ‘new’ international division of labour, Aglietta and Mistral confined their analyses of the recent period to relations among advanced capitalist countries. Alain Lipietz has, on the other hand, set out on a truly ambitious undertaking, that of analysing within a regulationist framework the respective roles of advanced capitalist and developing countries in the international division of labour.
