Disabled people as ‘care-givers’

  • Jenny Morris

The majority of those interviewed felt that they provided some form of emotional support to those who gave them personal assistance, but there were also ten people (all women) who could be described as ‘care-givers’ themselves. Four of these looked after young children, two provided assistance to their husbands (one of whom had also looked after her mother) and four others provided support to elderly parents (and two of these had previously also cared for young children).
