Abstract

The development of a well-balanced and appropriately targeted programme of research requires continuous analysis of ongoing projects and timely initiatives, to stimulate new or additional research when health care needs change or gaps in scientific knowledge are identified. An analysis of the health promotion research portfolio within the National Center for Nursing Research (NCNR) is presented as an opportunity to reflect on the progress that has been made by nurse investigators, and possible opportunities for the future development of nursing research in this area.
