Terrorist Violence against Immigrants and Refugees in Scandinavia: Patterns and Motives

  • Tore Björgo

Abstract

The disturbing rise in bombings, Molotov cocktail attacks and other terrorist violence against immigrants, refugees and asylum-seekers have given rise to two contrasting interpretations:
  1. 1.

Anti-racist activists have often claimed that these attacks are nothing but an expression of clear-cut racism — and that racist and neo-Nazi organisations are behind them.

  2. 2.

The other interpretation — often held by the police — is that the attacks are just ‘boyish tricks and drunken pranks’, having nothing to do with politics or racism.
