Abstract
Márquez once identified his next novella as his most satisfactory artistic achievement.1 I share this view while continuing to find No One Writes more perfect and Hundred Years more ambitious and substantial. Like Hundred Years, Chronicle has an enigma at its core but it is constructed and narrated, despite its apparent casualness, with a limpid clarity and close logic.
