Abstract
Despite growing understanding of the dynamics of HIV/AIDS in South Africa, and the emergence of increasingly reliable models of the likely spread of the disease in the country, analysis of the economic and social impact of the epidemic has remained limited and superficial. What research does exist has, in most cases, come from highly specific and often parochial sources, such as insurance companies or industrial consultants with limited areas of interest.
