Enablement, “How to Use”

  • Harold C. Wegner

Abstract

The utility of mechanical and most other inventions is self-evident from the invention itself. In the case of chemical compounds, the Court has held that a chemical process that produces a compound which has no known practical utility is not a completed invention under 35 USC § 101. Brenner v. Manson, 383 U.S. 519, 148 USPQ 689 (1966).
