Abstract
People often say that the old ideas are the best, and this has certainly been taken literally in economic and political circles. The classical ideas have made a comeback, albeit with a new, modernised tinge to them. Those who believe in the restorative power of markets now reduce the alternative Keynesian medicine to the sort of status that slightly dubious cures like acupuncture and herbalism enjoy — a nice idea, but perhaps slightly ill-conceived. So what symptoms and causes does classical theory identify for the disease of mass unemployment?
I’m a greaf believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I get of it. (Thomas Jefferson)
