Abstract
The previous chapter concluded with a thought about the respective goals of the Vietnamese people flooding into Hong Kong, and the thousands of local residents with similar aspirations to make a home in the West. Many correspondents identify the root of the problem as the fear of communism, pointing to the origins of Hong Kong people who themselves fled from mainland China. The two letters in this first section make reference to communism. The first contribution was submitted by an expatriate member of the territory, the second by an ethnic Chinese.
