Repetitive Strain Injuries

  • Chapter
Ergonomics, Work and Health

Abstract

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders of the neck, shoulder and upper limb are collectively referred to as repetitive strain injuries (RSI). The term originated in Australia and has been taken up in the UK. In North America the term cumulative trauma disorders (CTD) is applied to a similar range of conditions, and in Japan and Scandinavia they are sometimes called occupational cervicobrachial disorders (OCD). The term overuse syndrome is also used. These are all general categories, not diagnoses.
